My Letter to Senator Martinez about FISA
I would like to know why you decided to support the FISA legislation?
I am surprised anyone would vote yes on this bill.
Please explain to me why you think the telcos should get immunity when
they violated the law. President Bush does not have the authority to
tell private companies it is ok for them to break current law.
By voting yes to this, you have sold out the American people’s privacy.
There is a very good document on why privacy is so important. I hope
you take the time to read about it here.
I don’t understand how hard it would be to stand up for the American
people against such opposition as I’m sure you face daily. There are
many senators & congress people who are not looking out for what the
American people truly need. I think it would be easy to get involved
in the “politics” of it all. However, this should not be the focus,
the focus should be defending our founding principles. What the
American people need is personal freedom. Freedom from intrusive
government spy programs. There are other ways to secure our country.
We don’t have to resort to a communist type approach.
What I do know is, if you protect the American people, we will protect
you. If you sell us out again, like you just did, I will make it my
life’s mission to see that yourself & Senator Nelson, never get
elected again. I apologize if this seems harsh, but you need to think
about what you are doing. The actions you take, are extremely
important. Read about privacy, read about what our founding fathers
said on this topic. They have true insight into the things that are
happening today. Now you can say things were different then and this
is true. However, they also faced oppression that we know nothing of
in the US today. They knew something about living under a dictator.
They understood the problems involved and founded this country as a
result of that oppression. Please do not forget their sacrifice.
There are things in this world worse than death. Please consider this.
Respectfully,
Dave
